I made some assumptions based on the original poster's request so maybe they will update here with more clarification, but I can expand on my assumptions for now.

When I think of a virtual appliance I think of the VMWare vCenter virtual appliance, which is distributed as a complete linux based VM with the software preinstalled in a vendor supported package. We see more and more vendors doing this, for instance several of our fortinet firewalls are available as vmware or hyperv images that you simply boot up and in a few minutes have a functional product, this makes them easily portable to public cloud as well.

Generally these are linux based so the licensing minefield is avoided. For ourselves, we aren't a linux shop beyond dabbling so while we run several linux appliances because those are fully supported by the vendor, we have Control on a Windows server since we have to support the OS and that does increase our cost of the Control solution.

I can see that this would increase dev load on creating and maintaining these images, so that could be a negative. This can be beneficial in two ways as well though, firstly that it provides a standardized and controlled environment for dev to develop for. This is not as big a gain if you still have to maintain all the existing product builds to maintain flexibility for your clients. The second advantage is that it could greatly reduce the support load in that they will be working with standardized environments as well instead of troubleshooting client environments as much as the product.

For the client, rebuilding/upgrading can be much simpler and faster as well if there is a process for simply exporting the DB and importing it to a fresh new appliance VM.

This is the responsibility of the website/application/etc to hide typed characters in login fields, and it has been standard practice long before screen sharing was a thing because "shoulder-surfing" has always been a thing.

AutoLockonDisconnect, the extension isn't useful for us currently as we can't afford the time to manually go through the hundreds of servers to change this setting one at a time.

HideWallpaper, ShowBalloon, Consent, BeeponConnect, etc are some others that make sense on workstations but not servers or vice versa.

I would really LOVE to see remote printing control moved to an app.config setting instead of system wide web.config, and this would be a great thing for that as well. We have to disable this system wide as im sure 99% of partners do because of the issues it causes but there are a few clients that use Control/Automate to connect back to their workstations at the office and would really like remote printing and I would like to give it to them but I can't currently. I would also like to disable toolbox and many other settings (most of the bitmask features) for these users.

Came here to open a new request for this and forgot that I had already found one a few months ago and then was sad to see zero movement on it. I really don't care if we have the ability to customize the shortcut so much as that there just be a shortcut for send clipboard keystrokes. Here is a link to the current keyboard shortcuts if anyone is looking for it while reading this request. https://docs.connectwise.com/ConnectWise_Control_Documentation/Get_started/Knowledge_base/Keyboard_mapping_and_keyboard_shortcuts_reference

Passportal has a pretty good integration, and while I'm sure you aren't looking to change password management I mention it because passportal had to write their own integration as a screenconnect extension. The situation will likely be the same here so I would suggest asking 1password for integration to screenconnect.

I have received requests from techs for a shortcut for send clipboard as keystrokes as they use this every single time they connect to something.

Ah yes you are correct I'm sure, I have just recently installed that extension and hadn't really had a chance to mess with it yet. I wonder if it might be better if extensions installed in a disabled state first and you had to enable them, in that way giving you an opportunity to configure them before they are in production?

From the perspective of a fellow user:

1. Yeah administrator must have been the user name that you put in when you logged in. Administration is something done by an administrator, someone adept with technology, settings is how you configure a tv remote, this should not be confusing for an administrator.

2. This could be changed how you want, but I don't find it an issue now, it certainly isn't distracting and it doesn't affect the functionality. Some of those links actually lead to items that open in the second pane as you like.

3. That icon is an A because you are logged in as Administrator and it uses the first initial of the user, for me it is an R. It is a blue circle because you have a blue theme, for me it is red. That whole icon/menu is a bit of a mess though, seems they just threw everything in there that didn't fit somewhere else.

4. Agree, top or even scrolling along with the scroll action to stay always visible.

5. Agree, also the icons for updates needed are small and unclear.

6. Agree, but I'd rather it just not show at all extensions that aren't compatible with the installed version.

7. You can already do this, click the little triangle next to secondary pane title.

I'm sure some sort of OS would be required :P

But a prebuilt linux image for hperv and vmware would be great!
